  What evidence is there that revalation's babylon the great is christindom?

  i seem to recall that the jw evidence for this is very thin on the ground.

  they take one phrase about the "bride and bridegroom"never being heard again, and say that shows it must mean christidom.

  but thats one line out of an entire stream of discription that quite frankly could be about anything.

  that's an very interesting question. While "Christendom-bashing" will forever remain a favorite pastime of the JWs, officially they have been kind of silent lately about many of the Revelation prophecies and who they represent. Kind of like how they've been quiet about how America is this 2nd wild beast with lamb horns who spits up frogs (I knew a girl in high-school who matched that description, but I digress.)

  This is just my wondering but perhaps maybe they are a little more officially reserved because of all the skeletons that lately have been piling up in their own closets? Abuse scandals, corporate profits, UN affiliation, etc. If I were them I would lay low about the "straw in everyone else's eye".

  the above mark twain quote made me think about some of the comments i heard this weekend during the watchtower study.

  several commentors alluded to the seeming ignorance of "wordly" people as regards bible knowledge.

  comments such as "people who go to churches don't know the bible like we do, so they may go to church and afterwards say that was a very good sermon.

  The guy who gave the Memorial Talk made this comment about people's belief that the dead go to heaven:

  Speaker: .... so this leads to the question - What happens to those who have died? Are they up in heaven, floating around on a cloud and playing a harp?

  *JWs in audience start cracking up*

  ummm.... wow. considering there were non-JWs in the audience, I thought it was a bit on the tasteless side to publicly laugh at a persons belief that their loved one is in heaven.

  sir82 - Thanks for responding. You make a good observation concerning how many elders seem to know their way around the "law" in that they know how to not incriminate themselves yet "take care of business". They seem to be able to do whatever they want, yet if you speak up at all, YOU are out of line. You're being judgemental, you're being jealous, you're being rebellious.

  Sab - it is unfortunate that stupid Smurf stories make the rounds, but the incompetency of elders is just shrugged off. It's almost as if there is no accounting or consequences for their actions unless they go balls out and commit some horrific sin, and even then justice is hit-or-miss.

  Exactly. When families fall apart and suffer, when people develop mental problems due to anxiety & fear, when people fall into despair and depression because of being made to feel like sinners for giving into feelings that are biologically natural, when men are put into a position where they teach that only true forgiveness can be attained by confessing to THEM, then there HAS to be some sort of highter standard than just "oh, he puts alot of hours in and cleans the KH toilets. PROMOTE that man!"

  Finally-Free - a moustache? c'mon. Really? wow. When was this? Christina Hendricks' body is relative to my interests.

  unshackled - That's a shame about your sister. I've known of other J-dubb kids who while not actually being "bad" kids, didn't see eye-to-eye with some of the WTBS policies and therefore were abandoned by their parents. Their fathers would flip out on them and throw in their faces the consequences that their actions would bring on HIS position. Nevermind being a father, the cult comes first!

  They can be the person at the door, the guy at work who show potential interest, the FS buddy, the Elder sitting next to you, the Conductor, the CO, the sister you turn to for some validation.........we are legion and growing.

  Did you watch R rated movies when you were in it?

  last night, i watched an r rated movie that featured violence.

  at least 30 people were shot in the first 45 min of the movie.. while i was in and an elder, i watched r rated movies all the time just didn't talk about it.

  so how many of you watched r rated movies even though "mother" said not to?.

  Yeah. And so did a lot of others, even some elders and elder's families. Nobody ever spoke about it, but we all know what was really going on. Actually, the only ones who honestly did avoid such "morally corrupt" entertainment were the ones who weren't really popular due to their being a bit "eccentric" (no offense to anyone here who avoided R-rated movies when you were in!)
